Michael Anctil is known as a community champion in Medicine Hat and area. Michael and his wife, Wanda, are the owners of Medicine Hat Monumental Company Ltd. He has volunteered with numerous organizations, including the Knights of Columbus, Camp McCoy Association, Alberta Summer Games, and Alberta Special Olympics. As a result of his dedication, Michael received the 2005 Civic Recognition Award for Sport and Recreation.

CFSEA is honoured that Michael served on the Board for seven years, spending five of those as Board Chair. Michael was nominated to sit on the Board of Directors in 2014, was elected as Board Chair in 2016, and retired from the Board in 2021. When he started, CFSEA’s total endowment fund was $10,500,000 and grew to be $23,600,000 by the time he left. Michael and Wanda are Heritage Club members and recently, Michael received a Honourary Lifetime Board Membership for his time, commitment, and dedication to the Community Foundation during his years as a volunteer.

Before his time on the board, Michael came to know the Community Foundation as a grant applicant. While serving the Camp McCoy Association, he was encouraged to apply to CFSEA for a grant by the Executive Director at the time, Mike Christie. The Camp McCoy Association was successful in their application and was awarded a grant of $10,000 in 2012.

Michael and Wanda have a very busy family life. They have three daughters and five grandchildren. When they aren’t spending time with their family, Michael and Wanda are both dynamic volunteers in the community and extremely hard workers with their business.

Michael is an ambassador of the Community Foundation and a community champion in Medicine Hat. He is a humble and hardworking individual who contributes daily to a vibrant, healthy, and caring community!
