Community Foundation of Southeastern Alberta (CFSEA) distributes $14,040 through the Youth in Philanthropy (YiP) program to charities across Southeastern Alberta.

Youth in Philanthropy (YiP) is a CFSEA program designed to introduce motivated young people to philanthropy and local community development. The program gives students hands-on experience working as a team and with local charitable organizations to help the community thrive. Students and youth groups form a YiP committee, research their community’s greatest needs, and connect with local charities that address those needs. Through the YiP program, students are engaged and empowered to contribute and support their community.

“I thought it was pretty cool going to the Ronald McDonald House because I learned stuff I didn’t know before and I got to see what it was like in there and see how kids and parents live there for a bit at a time. And now that I know more about it, I am happy to donate to them. I’m glad I had this opportunity.”

A record number of 12 groups participated in the YiP program this year helping to distribute $14,040 to 13 unique charities. The Youth in Philanthropy grants are made possible by donors who contribute to the Youth Endowment Fund. Donations to this fund are never spent, rather, the investment income earned each year is distributed throughout the community.

“We chose the Women’s Shelter because there are a lot of people who are suffering from unhealthy relationships. This provides them with a safe place and somewhere to call home. It’s not just about helping one person, it’s about helping break the cycle of abuse”
