Vital Signs

Vital Signs© is a community check-up that measures the region’s health and vitality, identifies significant trends, and provides in-depth, up-to-date information about the people in these communities and the environments in which they live, work, and go to school.

Local data gathered through the program is used to support evidence-based, locally-relevant solutions to improve the quality of life at the community level. Vital Signs aims to inspire civic engagement, to provide focus for public debate, and to help a range of actors take action and direct resources where they will have the greatest impact. Residents, businesses, community organizations, educational institutions and government leaders use the information in Vital Signs to take action and direct resources where they will make the most impact.

2025 Vital Conversations Report: Rural Futures

Rural Futures: Regional Development and Conversations in Southeastern Alberta explores the priorities, challenges, and opportunities identified by rural communities across our region. Developed through extensive engagement—including focus groups, surveys, and consultations—the report highlights critical issues such as health care access, affordable housing, workforce retention, and community well-being. It also provides actionable recommendations to guide collaboration and investment across Southeastern Alberta.
