The Rural Community Fund of Forty Mile, one of the Community Foundation of Southeastern Alberta’s (CFSEA) established rural community funds, is proud to announce the Spring 2025 Community Grant recipients and Youth in Philanthropy (YiP) participants for the region.

Community Grants

More than $21,000 was awarded this spring to support local projects that enhance the quality of life across the County of Forty Mile:

  • Foremost Family & Community Centre – $8,000 for a furnace upgrade
  • Manyberries Community Association – $2,500 for Gather and Grow portable equipment
  • Foremost & District Minor Hockey Association – $7,500 for rink kitchen renovations
  • North 40 Mile Recreation Society – $3,150 for arena water bottle filling stations

The Community Foundation gave more than $21,000 to four projects in the County of Forty Mile.

These grants are made possible through a local endowment fund held by the Community Foundation. Donations are invested permanently, and annual earnings are granted to support community priorities identified by a local volunteer Advisory Committee.

Youth in Philanthropy

Three student groups from Forty Mile participated in CFSEA’s Youth in Philanthropy program, collectively granting $5,400 to charitable organizations:

  • Michael’s School awarded $1,800 to the Medicine Hat Women’s Shelter
  • 4H Shortgrass Beef Club granted $900 each to the Etzikom Museum Historic Windmill Society and Foremost Municipal Library
  • Senator Gershaw School granted $900 each to HALO and Inside Education

Three student groups from Forty Mile granted to five different organizations to make a meaningful impact on the community in which they live.

YiP engages students in the grantmaking process, helping them learn about local challenges and make meaningful contributions to the community.

About the Rural Community Fund of Forty Mile

Established under CFSEA in 2018, the fund is one of four Rural Community Endowment Funds serving Southeastern Alberta. The model enables residents to pool donations into a permanent fund, with investment earnings distributed twice per year in the spring and fall to support local initiatives. A dedicated Advisory Committee made up of local residents reviews applications and provides funding recommendations, helping ensure the fund reflects the evolving needs of the region and supports vibrant, caring, and healthy communities over the long term.
