The Community Foundation of Southeastern Alberta (CFSEA) is proud to announce that $21,300 was distributed to local charities through its Youth in Philanthropy (YiP) program this spring, engaging 11 student groups from across Southeastern Alberta in hands-on community giving.
YiP is a CFSEA initiative that introduces motivated young people to philanthropy and community development. Students form YiP committees, research community needs, connect with local charities, and award grants to the organizations they feel are making the most meaningful impact. The experience empowers students to be thoughtful, active participants in their communities.
A wide range of charities were supported this year, including HALO Air Ambulance, Medicine Hat Adaptive Sport and Recreation, Ronald McDonald House Charities Alberta, Redcliff Youth Centre, Medicine Hat Women’s Shelter Society, and Brooks Food Bank, among several others.

“We’re continually inspired by the care and insight these youth show through their giving,” said Niki Gray, CFSEA’s Executive Director. “YiP gives students the tools to become leaders in their communities, today and in the future.”
The YiP program is supported by CFSEA’s Youth Endowment Fund, where donations to the fund are invested permanently, with the annual income used to support student-led grants. This ensures that youth have opportunities to give back to their communities for generations to come.
